Jared J. Schwalm

Jared James Schwalm was a loving, caring and devoted husband, father, brother and friend. He transitioned from this world peacefully at home with his family on April 15, 2022 at age 89. He was born to Roy J. and Joyce G. (Firestone) Schwalm on September 4, 1932. Jared grew up and lived most of his life with his wife Barbara in Richland, PA. Jared and Barbara met at a young age, were married on December 27, 1952 and enjoyed 69 years of happy marriage. They were true soulmates in every aspect and did almost everything together. Jared and Barbara have two daughters, Susan L., wife of Denny M. Waxman, and Julie A., wife of Loren L. Wolgemuth. He is survived by many loving family members who he loved. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, his sister MaryAnn Sheetz, and brother Gene Schwalm.

Jared graduated from Richland High School in 1950. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was initially stationed in Alaska, then in New Mexico where he was joined by Barbara. After his military service he and Barbara moved back to Richland where they made their home and started a family.

He was employed as an insurance salesman for Washington National Insurance Company, which later became Monumental Insurance where he worked until retirement.

Jared was a very unique and good man. He was a dedicated to his family and spent most of his free time with his wife, children and extended family. His hobbies included fly tying and fishing, cooking, gardening, reading and travel. He was quite a good cook and enjoyed making foods for his family and friends. We have many good memories, and some of our fondest were fishing with Jared. He taught many of us how to fish and we have many funny “fish tales.” He had a great sense of humor, magnanimous personality, and was loved by many. While he will be greatly missed, we take comfort that he is reunited in heaven with his love, Barbara.
