The Jared & Barbara Schwalm Scholarship Fund
At SHI Macrobiotics, we believe everyone deserves access to education that supports holistic health, balance, and long term wellbeing. As a nonprofit organization, we proudly offer many free resources to the public, while also working to ensure that individuals with genuine financial need still have the opportunity to participate in our educational programs.
The Jared & Barbara Schwalm Scholarship Fund was created to support new students who wish to learn about holistic, healthy ways of living through macrobiotics, but for whom the financial investment of a full course may present a barrier. This scholarship is intended for individuals with demonstrated financial need and is awarded through an application review process.
This fund was established in loving memory of Jared and Barbara Schwalm, the parents of Susan Waxman, Director and teacher at SHI Macrobiotics. Jared and Barbara were both students and dedicated volunteers of the school, as well as longtime supporters of its mission. Their commitment to learning, service, and advancing macrobiotic education continues to guide the spirit of this scholarship.
Through this fund, we honor their legacy by extending educational opportunities to those who are ready to take meaningful steps toward improving their health, knowledge, and quality of life.
Recipients of this scholarship receive a $250 award, which fully covers the cost of the Standard Discover Balance & Vitality program and may also be applied as a partial credit toward the Mentorship program.
Applications for the current review period close on February 28, 2026. Applicants will be notified of their status following the review process.
