At SHI Macrobiotics, we believe that education should be accessible to everyone. As a nonprofit organization dedicated to sharing macrobiotic principles and holistic wellness practices, we strive to make learning opportunities available through free public resources as well as scholarship support for individuals who may not have the financial means to participate in our programs.

The Jared & Barbara Schwalm Scholarship Fund was established to help new students begin their educational journey in macrobiotics and holistic nutrition. This fund supports individuals who feel called to learn these principles but may find the full cost of enrollment to be a barrier. Scholarships are awarded through a simple application process and are based on demonstrated financial need.

This scholarship fund was created in loving memory of Jared and Barbara Schwalm, the parents of Susan Waxman, Director and teacher at SHI Macrobiotics. Jared and Barbara were devoted students of macrobiotics, generous volunteers, and longtime supporters of the school’s mission. Their enthusiasm for learning, community, and service continues to inspire the spirit of this fund.

Scholarship recipients may receive a $250 award, which fully covers the cost of the Standard Discover Balance & Vitality program or may be applied as a partial credit toward the Mentorship program.
